The story of Holly Springs Baptist Church began in 1973, born from the shared vision of Reverend John Homer Long and a dedicated group of families. Driven by a deep commitment to the Loganville community, these founding members first gathered for worship in a modest storage building at the Long residence.
What began as an intimate fellowship fueled by faith soon flourished. This growth led to the establishment of our permanent church home on Old Loganville Road in 1974, where we continue to honor the missionary spirit and community-focused values upon which we were founded.
It is the greatest honor of my life to serve as the Pastor of Holly Springs Baptist Church—the very place where I was raised. My roots here run deep; my maternal grandfather even helped lay the physical foundation of our church building. Growing up, the Wood household was defined by service to this congregation, but I eventually learned that "being in church" is not the same as being saved.
My life changed forever on April 16, 2006. While sitting in the second row, I heard a beloved member sing, "Lord, You're the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me." During the service that followed, under the preaching of Reverend Homer Long, the weight of my need for a Savior became clear. That day, I knelt at the altar and accepted the free gift of salvation.
After several years of serving alongside my father, my path took a detour, and I spent a season wandering away from my faith. However, the Lord is a faithful friend. He drew me back to Him, and I began serving at Hog Mountain Baptist Church in Dacula. It was there, in May 2019, that I answered the call to preach. After serving as Youth and Associate Pastor at Hog Mountain, God opened a door I never expected: the opportunity to return home.
In July 2024, I accepted the call to lead Holly Springs. My testimony is simple: I was born in the church and raised in the church, but the church didn't save my soul—Jesus did. My passion is to introduce others to that same faithful Friend.
The story of my ministry is inseparable from the story of my family. I met my wife, Katie, in high school, and we began dating shortly after graduation. One of the greatest joys of our early relationship was bringing her home to Holly Springs, where she, too, accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savior.
We were married in November 2017, and since then, God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters: Skylin, born in 2019, and Emersyn, born in 2024. As a husband and father, my greatest desire is to lead my family with the same grace and truth that the Lord has shown me. We serve together as a family, and we are honored to grow alongside the families of Holly Springs.
